AUTHOR POV:
The bell rings for the next lecture. Students settle into their benches, chatting softly. Vani walks in quietly, her eyes a little tired but her posture straight. She takes her usual seat beside Charu.
A moment later, Sanaya Ma’am enters the class. Her heels click sharply on the floor, and her eyes immediately fall on Vani.
She stops. Raises an eyebrow.
Sanaya Ma’am (loudly, sarcastic):
“Oh wow… look who decided to bless us after so many days.”
The entire class turns toward Vani. Whispers start.
Vani sits silently, clutching her notebook.
Sanaya Ma’am folds her arms.
Sanaya Ma’am:
“Some people get busy liking boys, falling behind them… and when someone tries to talk sense into them, they create drama… even try to harm themselves.”
The class gasps softly.
Charu looks at Vani, shocked and angry.
Vani’s throat tightens. She knows the truth—Sunny had pushed her that day. But nobody believes her. Her fingers shake.
Sunny sits at the back, smirking silently.
Sanaya Ma’am steps closer, her tone sharper.
Sanaya Ma’am:
“You think I don’t know what happened? You think I’ll tolerate this kind of behaviour in my class?”
Vani keeps her head down. Her heart feels heavy, humiliated in front of everyone.
Whispers in class:
“Is it true?”
“Why would she do that?”
“Who’s the boy?”
Tears sting Vani’s eyes. She can’t stay there anymore. She quietly stands up.
Charu whispers, “Vani, don’t—”
But Vani picks up her bag with trembling hands and starts walking toward the door.
Sanaya Ma’am scoffs.
Sanaya Ma’am:
“Walking out while I’m talking? How disrespectful.”
Vani stops for a moment, breathing shakily, then continues walking out without turning back.
She steps out of the classroom, wiping her tears.
Inside the classroom, Sanaya Ma’am slams the chalk on the table.
Sanaya Ma’am (angrily):
“From today onwards, she will NOT attend my lecture. If she can’t respect me, she has no place here.”
The class falls silent.
Charu looks at the door where Vani just left.

I rush out of the classroom, trying to hold back the tears burning behind my eyes. My breath is shaking, my chest feels tight. I don’t even see where I’m going… I just want to get away.
But in the corridor, I bump into someone.
Hard.
My notebook falls to the floor.
“I’m so sor—” I start to say, wiping my eyes quickly.
But then I look up.
And my world stops for a moment.
“Maya Ma’am?”
She is standing there, my 12th standard teacher… the person who was more like an elder sister than a teacher. She’s around 25, young, warm, someone who always supported me.
Her eyes widen when she sees my face.
“Vani? Beta… why are you crying?”
My throat closes.
I try to hold it in… but the moment she touches my shoulder gently, everything breaks.
I throw my arms around her.
“Ma’am…”
My voice cracks.
“Everyone is blaming me… for things I didn’t even do.”
Maya Ma’am hugs me back tightly, like someone who genuinely cares.
“Slow down… breathe… tell me everything.”
We sit on a bench near the empty corridor.
And I tell her.
Everything.
How Sanaya Ma’am insulted me.
How the whole class stared at me.
How no one believed the truth.
How Sunny pushed me… but people think I tried to harm myself.
While I talk, Maya Ma’am’s eyes soften with concern and anger for me. She holds my hand the whole time, listening like an elder sister.
When I finish, she cups my face gently.
“Vani, listen to me. You are innocent. And I know your heart. You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone.”
I nod slowly, tears still slipping down.
“Ma’am, I just… I feel so alone.”
She wipes my tears with her thumb.
“You’re not alone. Not when I’m here.”
She takes a deep breath and smiles.
“Tonight there’s a small party at my home. Family, close friends… nothing big. You come, okay?”
I look at her, surprised.
“Ma’am… me?”
“Yes, you. I want you there. I want you to relax, smile a little, eat good food, and forget all this drama for one evening.”
I feel something warm spread through my chest.
Like for the first time today, someone actually cares.
“Ma’am… thank you.”
She stands up, fixing my hair gently like a big sister.
“So it’s decided. Tonight, you’re coming. And bring Charu too. She’ll love it.”
I nod, finally feeling a little lighter.
Maya Ma’am squeezes my cheeks softly.
“Now no more crying. My Vani is strong.”
She smiles lovingly and walks away down the corridor.
And for the first time that day…
My heart feels a little less broken.
Then maya mam leave from there and I also .
